False River Academy's Young Leaders Take A Trip to New Orleans
False River Academy Young Leaders are on the rise. On Tuesday, January 17, 2006, the Pointe Coupee Young Leaders took a trip to New Orleans. False River Academy was proud to have six of its seven representatives to participate in this event. Ashleigh Marie Langlois (12), Garrett Couch (11), Jackie David (11), Brandon Oglesby (11), Katherine Robillard, (10),and Thomas Guillory (10) are among those who attended. While there, they were enlightened by the National Guard. The National Guard not only escorted the tour bus to New Orleans and back, but also gave a special tour of the Ninth Ward and Jackson's Barracks. Before the tour took place there was a short lesson on what happened during the hurricanes and how the levees broke. The lesson included a slide showing the sea levels of the state, and also lives being saved. When the slide show was finished the group left on the tour bus viewing various parts of the Ninth Ward, St. Bernard, Jackson Barracks' museums, and levee breaches. The devastation is still there. It was amazing to see that most modern conveniences were not present still. Most people have stated that the streets looked like a war zone, and indeed they did. It was a great opportunity for our youth to have a first hand look at what this natural disaster has done to our state. We are so proud of those selected and we hope that they will continue their leadership skills in our future. Below are some pictures taken by Katherine Robillard who was present on the trip.
