Attendance Letter

Dear Parents:

For the past few weeks we have noted that many students are reporting late to school and/or checking out early.  Regular attendance is very important for success in the classroom.  I certainly am not advocating that students report to school when they are ill especially during the flu season.   Students who are ill should remain at home. Many students miss valuable class time for doctor or dental visits and some appointments cannot be arranged after school hours or on holidays.   Wednesdays are usually affected by visits to the orthodontist.

However, I would like to ask your cooperation to make certain to keep late arrivals and early dismissals to a minimum.  The checking in/out process is disruptive to instructional time.  We would appreciate your support in making certain that your child remains at school as much as possible.

Requests for excused absences for vacations have also become a problem.  As an APPROVED school by the Louisiana Department of Education we are required to adopt a school calendar of 180 days, of which, there must be at least 175 days of 330 minutes of instructional time (exclusive of recess, lunch, and planning periods.)

In order to be eligible to receive grades high school students shall be in attendance a minimum of 80 days per course each semester or 160 days per course during a school year according to the Louisiana Handbook for School Administrators.

Exceptions to the state attendance policy can be made only in the event of extended personal illness, verified by a physician, or at the discretion of the principal.

I would very much appreciate your support in making certain we continue to maintain our status as an APPROVED school by the Louisiana Department of Education.

Sincerely,

Kenneth R. LeBeau

Principal
