LHSAA Annual Convention Proposals Passed

At the LHSAA Annual Convention, member schools passed several new rules. Two of notable importance include a rule affecting home-school students and one which affected the scholastic requirements for athletic eligibility.

Home-school students shall be ineligible for interscholatic participation at a LHSAA member school as of Juliy 1, 2010

The new scholastic requirements will not go into effect as early because students are currently in the second semester of the 2009-2010 school year and are under the current requirements of pass five units with a 1.5 GPA. Therefore, for a student to be scholastically eligible for the fall semester of the 2010-2011 school year, he/she must have earned five units with a minimum of a 1.5 GPA.

The newly adopted scholastic rule will affect eligibility for the spring semester of the 2010-2011 school year and thereafter.  The new rule sets a students first semester eligiablity as having earned at least six units from the previous school year and have a "C" average as determined by the individual school district. A student must pass six units from the first semester to be eligible for the second semester of the school year.
